MEDIA RELEASE: PM Kamla pledges to end voilence in Central Trinidad

PM Kamla greets security forces personnel
PRIME Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Saturday joined a combined national security force in Enterprise, Chaguanas, as she took forward ‘Operation Restore 2’ to return peace and safety to the people of the central community.

Following the weekly Cabinet meeting on Thursday, the Prime Minister convened a National Security Council meeting and mandated the Acting Commissioner of Police and Chief of Defence Staff to immediately bring together heightened security measures to bring an end to the recent space of violence in Enterprise.

Immediately upon her arrival from the CARICOM Heads of Government in Barbados, the Prime Minister sought updates from the Police and Defence Force and advised that she would personally visit the community on Saturday to oversee the work of the combined forces and assure residents.

Hitting the ground Saturday morning, the Prime Minister walked through a number of communities, meeting residents and personally assuring them that the collaborative national security initiative will restore peace to their community.

In a brief statement, the Prime Minister said: “My primary interest is safety and peace for the men, women and children of this community who are working hard every day to improve their lives in school and at their jobs.”

“We will not tolerate the boldness of criminal elements inciting gang violence. The people of this community work hard every day and my Government will not allow your peace and stability to be broken by a few who have a mistaken belief that they are bigger than our security forces.”

“Operation Restore 2 brings together some of our most experienced Military and Protective service officers who are here in your community to work with you and for you to keep you and your families safe,” Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar said.

The Prime Minister assured Enterprise families that the combined security force will be operating in their community all day, every day to detect and suppress acts of violence by criminal elements.

Operation Restore 2 brings together Defence Force troops and Police Officers with additional support by Officers from the Customs Division, Immigration Division and the National Operations Centre. The 24/7 operation will move to detect and suppress crime, especially criminal activity involving the use of arms and ammunition.

The operation will be spread across the Enterprise community, with special focus on keeping families in the Crown Trace - Bhagaloo Trace Area protected.
